Good Morning! Yesterday was an eventful day around the compound…Now, you know the saying everything happens in threes??? Well, this hit me full force…we lost 3 girls yesterday and I lost my cassava flour, my husband according to Miss K, and maybe my mind!
Well last night I went down to put the girls up a little early and they all came running to me as I walked down so naturally I didn’t think anything was wrong until I counted and recounted several times and kept coming up with only 8. So the search began and to my heartbreak I found 3 of the girls had been victims of some sort of prey…probably dogs. Of course my belly immediately felt the pain and then the anger started to fester…these girls are not just chickens, they have become part of the clan around here! We carry them around petting them and look forward to them coming to visit when we go down to give them scraps, check in and of course open and close the coop. Either way, last night the hubby and I go down so he can see where I found the girls and look for tracks…so we are creeping in the dark in size 12 boots…yes both of us…one flashlight…an all the sudden I step on a dead log and jumped/whaled so loud I think I touched the moon and woke the Galápagos Islands up…a sight to be had I’m sure! So of course we are all still sad and Miss K even went with Daddy to try and find where’re got her chickies this morning (with no luck). In true Beverly hillbilly fashion, I look out to see the hubby on a ladder throwing smoke bombs and firecrackers into tree holes as he jumps down to quickly take aim with the 22. Anyway, the girls, Miss K and I will all be fine in time as Nature sometimes takes its course, I just hope my girls survive the trauma of losing their friends.
As Miss K continues to grow each time we embark on a trip to the zoo, her interest and intellect grow faster and more majestic than a cheetahs. We enjoyed seeing the bears, hippos, elephants, lions, zebras, and of course were talked into a carousel ride. We all love to be outside and yesterday was a nice overcast day so most of the animals were out and we were thrilled to see them up close…at one point we walked by the alligators and my husband had K on his shoulders and motioned like he was going to throw her in as she cried, “no don’t throw me to the gators, I will be scared!” Of course he was just playing and made sure to tell her, “I was just joking.”
Once naptime was over, K and I headed outside to quickly mow the yard before filling the splash pool for some playtime/wear the kid out time! We have been having some sleep issues as the little weasel tries to come out of her room all hours of the night and sneak her way into my nice big king size bed that she turns into a toddler bed once she’s finished! The wear out session continued with daddy arriving home with some soil for the new planters he has been building and the removal my beloved rose bush he “accidentally” killed while spraying some herbicide. Now this was a rose bush that blossomed the biggest most fragrant roses I have ever seen and did I mention it was almost 5 yrs old! It was so big, we had to get the tractor to pull it out of the ground. Now in his defense he did get me a new rose bush for our anniversary to replace the one who accidentally met its untimely demise. We finished up with a little game of go fishing in the splash pool as Daddy casted the “fish” into the pool and my little “bear” ran and pounced on the “fish” for about 25 minutes to make sure the little weasel was good and worn out!
As I got ready to prepare dinner I noticed I was missing my brand NEW bag of Cassava Flour…now I have put phones in the fridge and toys in the freezer and maybe even almost given my husband the Vick’s vapo steam humidifier additive instead of cough syrup, but I could have sworn I put that cassava flour back in the pantry after the apple fritters were made Friday morning! Anyway just as I’m realizing my dinner is being derailed, my sweet little thief comes in with some beautiful flowers for “my wedding”. Now at this point I told her I was married to daddy to which she emphatically stated, “they are for when you marry daddy again.” I just said, well that sounds great, I will marry him over and over again! So I decided to do something I haven’t done in years for him…made hime 3 dozen chocolate chip cookies…especially after finding my girls…well and I also indulged in a little sorrow relief myself!
I hope you all are having a great week and take a little time to enjoy the roses!
